Acceptance Test: Missing state "In Progress" between "Not Implemented" and "Ready to Test"?

I have the impression that the state "In Progress" is missing between the states "Not Implemented" and "Ready to Test".

An acceptance test has no "In Progress" state because it is not used to tack physical work. The acceptance test is intended to test the backlog item. So, as soon as the test is ready, it is erm, ready for testing...

But then the name "Not Implemented" just feels wrong. Because from the context of the WIT it is a state of the Acceptance Test WIT but what you are saying now is that "Not Implemented" refers to the Task it is linked to, so it is a bit confusing, no?
I was thinking that it was a special kind of task for some kind of automated acceptance test that had to be implemented and once implemted it was ready to be tested. I just find the name for the state confusing.

I'm confused by this as well. I think a brief overview of how the Acceptance Tests play into the whole process of testing a PBI would be helpful. Is there a blog post or something about this? I've read this one:
http://consultingblogs.emc.com/simonbennett/archive/2009/08/01/the-three-ages-of-scrum-for-team-system-bugs.aspx.
At the end of that blog post it says
"I'll explain more on how to actually use the 3.0 QA system in the next post."
but I could never find that post. I bet that post will answer a lot of questions. ;-)

Hi Guys,
I agree that the Acceptance Test WIT state transitions don't make sense in isolation - they're part of a system.
It's also important to understand that they're not a new class of Sprint Task, but rather they're the 2.2 "Conditions of Acceptance" tab in the PBI WIT come to life (with teeth) - Acceptance Tests are an actionable extension to the PBI.
This is easier to grasp with pictures. A quick, clear overview can be found here:
http://microsoftpdc.com/Sessions/FT09
Watch from 21:50 to about 28:00 - to just an overview of AT's, Bugs, PBI's and how all the states are meant to fit together.
Kind Regards,
Simon
