Tell me how YOU use the plug-in with your process...please

I'd like to know how people use the plug-in in order to make their process as efficient as possible. Let me tell you my main concerns with our current use (going on close to 3 years).
We link Sprint Backlog Items, from sprint planning, to a Product Backlog Item. The Sprint Backlog Item has an owner (who will work on that SBI)...the Product Backlog Item does NOT. The linked Sprint Backlog Items for each PBI include development tasks (multiple), a manual testing task, an automated testing task and a documentation task. Each of these is assigned during sprint planning. The Work Remaining for the PBI is, correctly, the total of those tasks.
As the SBIs are completed, the Current Status is marked as Done. The status of those SBIs has NO automatic affect on the Current Status of the PBI. So, when all the development tasks are completed, theoretically the PBI is Ready For Test...but we have to manually monitor the SBIs for a PBI and manually change the status to Ready For Test when all development SBIs are marked as Done. That's my first problem...this is a manual process and many times our PBIs go days without being set to a Ready For Test state. Remember, most times there are multiple developers working on a PBI, so it's not as easy as just having "the developer" working on the story mark it Ready For Test.
We do NOT mark SBIs Ready For Test. We are only interested in testing PBIs, therefore only PBIs get marked Ready For Test. Therein lies the second problem. Because the testing and documentation tasks are SBIs, there's no indicator for those SBIs as to when they can be started. In other words, even when the PBI is marked Ready For Test, there's no indication to the testers or technical writer that the SBIs they are assigned to are now ready to be worked on.
So, how do you use this plug-in within your process that solves my problems. I'm very interested in methods that are automated.
Let me say that we originally didn't have testing and documentation tasks (SBIs) in TFS, therefore when the Work Remaining for a PBI = 0 we knew it was Ready For Test. But, I want to keep track of ALL the work for the team in TFS and that's when the problem above started.

Thanks for sharing your information.
Right now, I'm trying to figure it out.
There don't appear to be too many people following the 1.x discussions though.

I thought about posting it to the 2.x discussion, since we also use that here on other projects, but I wasn't sure if my question was entirely valid. I should look into that and maybe move my post.
